2020 Trends in Home Décor

Home décor in 2020 will be bolder in color, texture, and style, according to the interior design team at PulteGroup, Inc., which owns homebuilding companies such as Centex, Pulte Homes, and Del Webb.

“This year is all about reflecting your individuality through design,” said PulteGroup National Vice President of Interior Design Angela Nuessle. “The key to making these trends your own is to follow your personal style and listen to what speaks to you, while subtly implementing the latest trends to bring out the true personality of the home.”

Here are Pulte’s top home design trends you can expect to see in 2020:

Curvilinear Forms

Curves are in style, whether it’s rounded corners on wall joints, arches across ceilings, or furniture pieces and artwork that are more round than square. These provide a “softer look” and can “add a retro vibe that spans from mid-century to high-glam.”

Natural Textures

Instead of cookie cutter trim, homeowners will use more raw elements in design this year. This could mean anything from textured furniture materials to soft throws, essentially any natural texture that adds “visual significance, intensity, and depth to interiors.”

Unique Adornments

Think personalization when adding small touches this year. From cabinet knobs to bits of glam or personality, expect “touches of ornamentation to create truly unique spaces.”

Off-the-Wall Art

Art will be less traditional this year, according to Pulte, incorporating overall design trends such as natural textures and mixed-media. “The key is to achieve texture, depth and intensity with unique pieces that will make a lasting impression.”

Walk on the Wild Side

Florals, botanicals, and other prints that bring the outside indoors will be popular this year. “Embracing the wild side comes with color palettes reminiscent of camouflage and a pronounced focus on alluring moments in nature coming into play with design.”

Bold Color Statements

In addition to accent walls, expect more bold colors in furniture choices and artwork. “The key to embracing this trend is to strike a balance between incorporating bold color statement pieces with subtle, layered neutrals.”
